Thoughts on Memorial Day
Posted in News.
As the weather turns warmer, and the students I teach start counting down the days until summer break, Americans take Memorial Day weekend to enjoy BBQ and some time with their families.
Along with celebrating, we should take a step back and remember what Memorial Day really is: a day of remembrance, honoring those who have given their lives in service to our country. Putting a flag in front yards and attending vigils and parades are among the ways Americans celebrate and honor these fallen heroes.
Regardless of your political affiliation, or how you feel about the wars, it is undeniable that soldiers who have fought and died have paid the ultimate sacrifice for America. These brave men and women put aside differences and fought together to make this a better world. In their honor, we too should put our differences aside, and this Memorial Day, remember those who have given service to our nation, and thank those that continue to ensure America’s freedom.
